Emphatic on emerging the winner of the 2016 presidential elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday called for calm as the Electoral Commission goes through the motions to declare the victor in the poll.

“We have clinched a famous and historic victory…It is important that we remain calm. We have been through this before…Let the EC do its works,” he told members and supporters of his Party, who had thronged his residence in Nima, Accra to celebrate ahead of the official declaration of the Presidential and Parliamentary results.

He said he was confident, that with the figures available to the Party, the NPP had an overwhelming majority of the seats in Parliament and “victory would not elude the NPP when the EC declare the results of the polls”.

He thanked the other aspirants in the presidential race who had called to congratulate him, saying that they would be playing a part in the quest for the development of the country.

The aspirants are Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People’s Party; Dr Edward Mahama of the People’s National Convention; Mr Joseph Osei Yeboah, the Independent Candidate, Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings of the National Democratic Party and Mr Ivor Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party.

Nana Akufo Addo also praised his running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the immense and untiring role he played in the campaign leading to the Party’s victory.

He thanked all Party supporters for their unwavering support that had brought the NPP so far.

Party bigwigs and scores of supporters had from midday gathered at the home of the Nana Akufo Addo, with many more supporters amassing on the road leading to his residence and in front of the Nima Police Station.

The EC has asked the political parties to give it up to 72 hours to collate and certify the results from the constituencies before declaration.

Both the NPP and the governing National Democratic Congress are claiming victory in the December 7 polls, however the Police administration has asked all political parties to observe the rules governing the collation, certification and declaration of the results of the election in order not to compromise the peace and tranquility of the country.
