Amansie Central score high marks for strong performance

FinanceThe Amansie Central Assembly has been applauded for sticking to best practices in its award and implementation of capital development projects.

A performance audit carried under the Ghana Strengthening Accountability Mechanism (GSAM) project, rated the assembly high in the areas of project planning, monitoring and costing.

The findings of the audit were made known at a stakeholders’ forum held in Jacobu – the district capital.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded project seeks to promote citizens oversight responsibilities over capital development projects, to improve local government transparency, accountability and performance.

Mr. Louis Acheampong, the Coordinator, said the assembly was found to have complied with the rules governing the award of contracts and saw to it that there was also value for money.

Additionally, it actively involved the beneficiary communities in the selection of the projects.

He recommended that the assembly established client service unit, where people could channel any complaints they had about its operation.
That, he noted, would deepen and strengthen governance at the local level.

Mr. Emmanuel Dede Appiah, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said the report would inspire the assembly to continue to do the right things and work hard to bring progress to the people.

They were determined to make sure that every project started was completed on schedule and met the contract specifications, he added.
