DKM depositors disappointed in liquidator

DKMCustomers of the liquidated microfinance company, DKM, say they are disappointment in the official liquidator.

Some of them, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and asked that they should not be identified, said what they were being paid came nowhere near the money they deposited.

Those with deposits ranging between GH¢100,000.00 and GH¢40,000.00 are receiving just GH¢3,500.00.

They described it as woefully inadequate and unfair.

The depositors have since last week Monday, being queuing amid strong police presence, daily at the GCB Bank branches in Sunyani for repayment of their monies.

An official from the office of the liquidator told the GNA that only people whose claims had been validated, qualified to receive refund.

He appealed to everybody to exercise restraint as they looked at every claim and validated them.

It would be recalled that DKM’s operations were suspended by the Bank of Ghana, last year, after the company was cited for failing to comply with regulations governing the financial industry.

The government then appointed a liquidator to see to the liquidation of the company’s assets and work out the modalities for refund of the affected customers’ deposits.

In September this year, the liquidator held meetings with affected customers in Sunyani, Wa and Bolgatanga, and decided to begin the refund on the second week of October.
