“It’s hereby given that effective Monday October 10, 2016, members of the Association of State Attorneys are giving  notice of our intention to resort to legal strike within seven days, if the commission and the respondents do not take steps to enforce  the 28th September 2015 NLC ‘s Compulsory Arbitration Award and other condition of services for the state Attorney.”

A letter signed by Mrs Francisca Tete-Mensah, National President of the Association has said.

The National Labour Commission (NLC) and its respondents: the Ministries of Finance and Justice and Attorney General and the Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission have also been served with the notice.

The State Attorneys in two separate letters had requested the NLC to compel the three respondents to comply the Orders of the Commission’s Arbitration Award that stressed the need to harmonise attorneys’ salaries with that of members of the lower bench.

They are also requesting that they should be paid their arrears of emolument arising from the harmonisation by December 31, 2015.

The State Attorneys have decried the lack of support, machinery and tools such as computers, printers with toners, law reports to efficiently perform their duties.

They are also asking for training and retraining of all State Attorneys and reduction of work load by employing more lawyers.

State Attorneys play key roles in matters pending before the Superior courts and their industrial strike may affect justice delivery in the country.
