Anti-drugs fight intensifies in six selected districts

CocaineThe fight against hard drugs misuse has been taken to a new level with the launch of a project dubbed “community anti-drug network”.

It is targeting six selected districts – Cape Coast, Shai-Osudoku, Ga West, Yilo, Fanteakwa and Agona West.

The project, the brain-child of the Community Anti-Drug Coalition involves scaled up public education across the various communities to substantially reduce narcotic drugs use by the people.

A four-day training programme to build the capacity of members of the network, had been held in Bonsu in the East Akim Municipality.

It was jointly organized by the Philip Foundation, an anti-drug advocacy group, and the Community Anti-Drug Coalition of America (CADCA).

Mr. Philip Boateng, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, said more should be done to discourage and pull the people away from the path to self-destruction.

He said the coming election had added greater urgency to the drugs fight – to prevent election-related ugly incidents.

He indicated that snatching of ballot boxes, destruction political party posters and other political offences were often committed under the influence of illicit drugs.

Mr. David Shavel, a resource person from CADCA, urged the participants to work hard and with total commitment to help everybody to fully recognize the awful effects of drugs.
