Mr. Lawrence Carl Lokko, coach of Lightweight boxer Richard Commey, has disputed claims that the boxer’s failed attempt to annex the International Boxing Federation (IBF) World title was due to his corner.

Commey lost narrowly to Robert Easter Jr of the US a fortnight ago.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports, Mr Lokko said he was shocked by assertions by Nii Korley Collison, an Australian based boxing promoter that, Commey lost from the corner.

“I am convinced Collision was not well informed before he made that statement. He was clearly ignorant about his position and I was saddened other media outlets used the story without seeking my reaction.

“Let me put it on record that, I was in the corner with Kwame Asante, who is based in the United States of America and was on record to have assisted Joshua Clottey and Joseph Agbeko, when they won their titles.

“If you have a coach in the caliber of Asante, what else could one ask for? He is one of the experienced coaches we have in Ghana. I had other coaches in my corner as well, so am surprised Collison came up with those comments.” he stated.

According to Mr. Lokko, he deserved due recognition for his role in the professional career of Commey, adding that, he picked the young boxer from his childhood days and gave him the needed technical guidance to reach this far.

“When Commey was winning all over the world, nobody questioned my competence. We will not be distracted by these negative comments but rather focus on our title ambitions.

Mr. Lokko also raised doubts about Collison’s credentials as a boxing promoter, saying that, he has never organized any fight or event before.

It will be recalled that, Australia-based Ghanaian boxing match-maker and promoter, Nii Korley Collison, slammed the corner of Ghanaian lightweight title hopeful, Richard Oblitey for his loss at the hands of American Robert Easter Jnr in their recent IBF title bout in Pennsylvania.

Commey lost in a controversial split decision after the American had suffered a knock-down in the eighth round.
