Mr Kofi Adams, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Campaign Coordinator for Election 2016, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Administration under erstwhile President John Agyekum Kufuor of failing to revamp the Western Railway lines.

He said although there was a substantive minister in-charge of the railway, however the then NPP Administration failed woefully to breathe life into the ailing sector.

Mr Adams, who is also the National Organiser of the ruling NDC, said this at the campaign launch of the Sekondi Constituency Parliamentary Candidate of the Party, Mr Emmanuel Assafuah, in Sekondi, on Wednesday.

Mr Adams indicated that the NDC under President John Dramani Mahama started constructing the Kojokrom/Sekondi/Takoradi railway lines, in order to offer affordable transportation system to the residents of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

He said a vibrant railway sector would rejuvenate economic activities in Sekondi and its surrounding communities.

He therefore, urged the electorate to vote for the NDC parliamentary candidate and President Mahama in the December 7 polls, in order to attract more developmental projects to the area.

Mr Adams noted that the twin city had enjoyed its fair share of developmental projects under the current government.

He mentioned some of the projects as asphalted roads in the Metropolis, the ongoing expansion works of Albert Bosomtwi-Sam Fishing Harbour and Takoradi Harbour, as well as the Atuabo Gas Processing facility.

The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Sekondi, Mr Assafuah observed that the Sekondi Youth Centre, which was constructed in 1916, had not seen any major renovation, however, it was under the Government that, the facility had been demolished for re-construction since it served as a common ground for entertainment and other public gatherings.

He also commended the Government for constructing the Nkotompo sea defence wall to ward off heavy tidal waves from destroying structures in the fishing community.

He said the Sekondi Constituency had been loyal to the NPP for 20 years by endorsing the candidature of the Papa Owusu Ankomah and thus, pleaded with them to try the NDC parliamentary candidate this time round.

Mr Assafuah pledged to construct an ICT centre and lobby for a faculty of the Takoradi Technical University to be established at the Railway School to train more youth in various employable skills.

He gave the assurance that the Sekondi Market would be upgraded into a modern facility if the NDC Government is retained in the General Election so that it could accommodate more traders and enhance business transaction there.

The campaign launch attracted some NDC bigwigs including Mr Totobi Quakyi, a member of the NDC Council of Elders, Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, the Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Wiawso, and the Deputy Regional Minister, Mr Alfred Ekow Gyan, Dr Zanetor Rawlings, the Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Korle Klottey.
