Road accidents kill 101 on Volta roads

Accident1A total of 101 persons were killed in the Volta Region through road crashes from January to August this year, Mr Daniel Wuaku, Regional Manager, National Road Safety Commission, has said.

He said the 391 road accident cases involved 568 vehicles and left 452 people with various degrees of injuries.

Mr Wuaku, who was addressing schoolchildren at a ceremony to present road safety textbooks to basic schools, said 108 pedestrians were knocked down during the period.

He said the figures were worrying hence the pedestrian safety programmes initiated by the Commission.

Mr Wuaku said the Commission was working with other stakeholders to train and license motorcycle riders across the Region to ensure their safety on the road.

He appealed to politicians to embrace best road practices during the campaign period to avoid crashes.

The schoolchildren were taken through various road safety guidelines.
