A journalist has been arrested and detained by the police for taking a photograph of an officer allegedly taking a bribe of GH¢5.

The journalist, Fred Sarpong of the Daily Express Newspaper was arrested for what the police say is ‘offensive conduct’, because he was taking pictures of a policeman allegedly requesting a GH¢5 bribe from a bus driver around Tesano in Accra.

According to information available to journalists, Mr Sarpong and his colleague, Raphael Apetorgbor witnessed a police officer demanding a GH¢5 bribe from a bus conductor around Tesano this afternoon and took his picture.

Though, the situation that led to the request for a bribe remains unclear, Mr. Sarpong has been arrested and detained at the Tesano Police Station after he was accosted and assaulted by police officers at the scene.

He is currently in detention.

Soon after our story, we received information that Mr. Sarpong has been released.
