Current weather condition promises big catch for fishermen – Ghana Meteo

FisheriesThe present weather conditions hold promise of great success for fishermen along coastal parts of Ghana.

Coastal areas of the country are presently experiencing very cold weather, which is often accompanied with light drizzling.

Mr Tettey Portuphy, Senior Meteorologist at the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Kotoka International Airport, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview, that  the present weather conditions has resulted in what is termed, “up-welling” in the sea, which brings nutrients to the sea surface.

He said fish are attracted in their numbers to these nutrients, making them easy catch for fishermen.

Mr Portuphy said by mid-September, the coastal and mid-sectors of the country would begin experiencing the second and minor rainy season.

The Senior Meteorologist said Ghana’s Northern Region on the other hand, was already experiencing its major and only rainy season for the year.

Ghana’s coastal area has two rainy seasons, consisting of the major and minor seasons respectively.

Northern Ghana, however, has one single and major rainy season.
