Goldstar Air awaits clearance from GCAA to fly purchased aircraft

goldstarGhanaian airline Goldstar Air, has lease-purchased three Boeing aircraft, awaiting clearance from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to commence operations.

Mr Eric Bannerman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the airline, says the aircraft, comprising Boeing 767,777 and 737, are based in France , and would be branded in Ghanaian colours upon getting clearance from the GCAA.

He said the acquisition, financed by the aircraft owners has flexible terms where Goldstar Air has two years to complete the payment arrangements outlined in the agreement provisos or stipulations.

In an interview with journalists in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer said there are  additional aircraft waiting in the wings or on standby to be purchased and would be brought in anytime demand sky rockets.

The Boeing 767 and 777,wide body aircraft would ply the long haul routes such as Baltimore Washington, Dubai, Guangzhou and London, with the Boeing 737 being deployed to ply on the West Africa routes comprising Abidjan, Lagos, Abuja, Monrovia, Freetown, Banjul, Dakar and Conakry.

Mr Bannerman said 90 per cent of the work is done and the only 10 per cent is for the GCAA to issue us the license “and go with us to inspect the aircraft,” stating that the inspection fee had already been paid.

He indicated that the cabin crew screening would kick-start next month, adding that the process would open up employment possibilities to Ghanaians based home and abroad.

“Goldstar Air though at its embryonic stage, recently procured a mouth-watering deal with Baltimore Washington International Airport for free landing and parking and that has put the company on a strong footing to do business,” Mr Bannerman said.

The Goldstar Air CEO said that his resolve to build a hanger at the Tamale International Airport would be realised soon to serve as engineering school for his employees and others to acquire the tricks of the trade.

“Meanwhile the Diamond Hanger which is at London Stansted, the second biggest hangar in Europe will be used as engineering and training base in London,” Mr Bannerman added.
