Three suspected robbers gunned down by Police

PoliceThree suspected robbers were killed after they had engaged the police in a firefight at Asuoyeboa in Kumasi.Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwaku Osei Ampofo-Duku, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander, told journalists that two of their colleagues, managed to escape.

The incident reportedly happened at about 22:00hours on Monday.The police received information that the gang was preparing to raid a property near the Asuoyeboa SSNIT Flats and waylaid them.

He said as the taxi carrying the suspected robbers approached, it was signaled to stop but the driver refused and kept speeding amid gun firing.

The police gave them a hot chase and at a point, the deceased got down from the vehicle and run into a roadside bush from where they fired at the police.ACP Ampofo-Duku said the officers returned fire and the three took direct hits and got killed.

The driver of the taxi and one other person with him were, however, able to flee and that they are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.Two locally manufactured pistols, two mobile phones, cigarette lighter, catapult, knife and cash of GH24 were found on the deceased.

The Deputy Regional Commander said they had a strong suspicion that it was the same gang that had shot and killed a driver, transporting a sick Chinese miner to the hospital on the Obuasi-Jacobu road on July 21.
He appealed to the hospitals to be on the alert and flag up anybody who reported there with gunshot wounds for treatment.
