MTN Ghana develops teacher’s portal for GES

MTN-LogoMTN Ghana at the end of its 21 Days Y’ello care programme, has developed a teacher’s portal for the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The portal would have soft copies of textbooks, manuals, educational curriculum and other relevant information uploaded to enable teachers throughout the country to easily access information for teaching.

Mrs Cynthia Lumor, the Executive Director for MTN Ghana Foundation, speaking at the closing ceremony of the 21 Days programme said: “We hope this initiative will greatly improve teaching and learning especially in deprived schools.”

The Y’ello Care initiative is an annual staff volunteer programme that involves community services that runs across the MTN Group footprint from June 1 to June 21.

This Year’s programme is on the theme: “Investing in Education for All.”

She said at the end of the event their staff volunteer activities have impacted approximately 7, 000 students in 14 schools and three community libraries in parts of the country.

She said the objective of this year’s event was to improve education in communities and to help bridge the ICT divide within the educational sector as well as empower teachers through digital training.

She said the MultiChoice Ghana in partnership with GES has equipped six senior high schools with digital satellite television systems, Explora decoder and teaching resources.

Mrs Lumor said MTN Ghana with support from its partners have also donated 35 computers to six institutions, adding that “we restocked three community libraries with books to encourage reading”.
