CPP calls on suspended Upper East Executives to cease attacks

CPPThe Upper East Regional branch of the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) has called on the two suspended National Executives of the Party to cease fire for the sake of the party.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Regional Executives and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga.

The signatories included Alhaji Baba Hussaini Ibrahim, Regional Chairman of the Party; Hajia Zalia Ibrahim, Regional Women’s Organizer; Mr William Abayik, Regional Treasurer; and Mr Yusif Anabia, Regional Youth Organizer.

The two suspended National Executives are, Messrs Nii Amarh Akomfrah and Ernesto Yeboah, General Secretary and National Youth Organiser.

They were sanctioned for failing to consult the party’s hierarchy before publicly commenting on the “Car bribery Saga” involving President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama.

Comments made by the two National Executives in that regard had led to their suspension.

The Regional Executives expressed disappointment at the attitude of the suspended officers for flouting the party’s directives and described the action of the two as unfortunate.

The statement said the Regional Executives said the decision of Mr Yeboah to petition the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), requesting the institution to investigate the President over the alleged “Car bribery Saga” without also consulting the top hierarchy of the CPP party was a violation of the party’s rules and regulations.

It said “these acts, we noted, simply flouted the Party’s procedures and is contrary to the collective position of the Party. We are therefore calling on the two National Executives to cease fire and rather attend to the summons of the Disciplinary Committee established by the Party to explain themselves”.

It is very important for the two to note that suspension does not mean one has been expelled from the party.

One could be exonerated if one has a good case to make about his or her action or inaction before the Disciplinary Committee”, the statement said.

It said chastising the flag-bearer and other National Leaders of the Party by the two National Officers in the media did not only affect the flag-bearer and other National Leadership of the Party, but the overall fortunes of the party in the upcoming general election.

“We wish to also state emphatically that the youth in the fifteen constituencies in the Upper East Region disassociate themselves from the National Youth Organiser’s, petition to CHRAJ to investigate the President”, the statement said.
