NALAG asks chiefs to release lands for local industrialisation
Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has appealed to chiefs to release lands for local industrialisation in the districts.
He said NALAG is supporting local assemblies to create sustainable jobs and asked chiefs to support the initiative.
Mr Odamtten said this at a durbar to mark the fourth anniversary of the creation of Akatsi North District at Ave-Dakpa in the Volta Region.
He said it is important for chiefs to support the assemblies to break new frontiers and expand their local economies for rapid socio-economic development.
Mr Odamtten commended the District for “taking great strides” in bringing development to the area.
He noted that in just four years, the District had turned its challenges into opportunities.
He described the District as the fastest growing area and praised staff of the Assembly and the chiefs for the feat.
Mr James Gunu, District Chief Executive said the District is working towards self-sufficiency by 2020.
He said the District is producing tomato paste, palm oil and pineapple juice locally under the Rural Enterprise Programme and expressed confidence that the District would not be dependent on central government in the near future.
The anniversary on the theme: “Akatsi North District-Four years of Transformation in the context of Decentralisation and Innovative Leadership,” was to unite the people for accelerated development and market tourism potentials of the District among others.
A six-unit semi-detached staff bungalow, a three-bedroom self-contained building for the District Coordinating Director and a Fire Tender and Station were inaugurated to mark the anniversary.
