Foreign-based athletes arrive for National Circuit Championship

Five foreign based athletes have arrived in the country to compete in the finals of the National Circuit Athletics Championship billed for Saturday June 11 at the new Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

The athletes, including Sprinter Flings Owusu-Agyapong, US born Ghanaian athlete Gemma Acheampong, Agnes Abu, Janet Amponsah and Akua Akrofi arrived Wednesday morning to start preparations ahead of the Africa Senior Athletics Championship (ASAC) in Durban, South Africa this month.

The Circuit Championship, sponsored by Africanus.net, ibis hotel and the Ghana Commercial Bank,will also see the participation of Togo, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire.

In an interview with the athletes at the Ibis hotel in Accra, Owusu-Agyapong noted that, they are poised for action, adding that, they are ready for the event and the Africa championship.

“We will run our best and perform well and raise high the flag of Ghana. We are going there to win and we are very determined. All we need to do is to make a good time’’.

The final Circuit championship will see athletes who couldn’t qualify for the (ASAC), the opportunity to meet the qualification standard on Saturday.
