PPP launches Parliamentary Campaign for Elections
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP), on Saturday launched its National House-to-House and Village-to-Village Parliamentary Campaign for Election 2016, from the Odododiodio Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.
Nii Allotey Brew Hammond, who is the Party’s National Chairman, said the launch was to introduce and confirm the PPP’s Parliamentary Candidates to the constituents.
The Reverend William Larbi, aka “Stopper One”, was thus introduced by the National Chairman as the Parliamentary Candidate of the Odododiodio Constituency.
The launch which was attended by other Parliamentary candidates across the country, attracted many residents who followed the team into homes, amidst singing and dancing, to greet and fraternise with the residents.
Nii Brew Hammond said the Party’s campaign to wrest power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) was already in full swing and the party was positioning itself to become a strong winning political brand in this year’s election and beyond.
Therefore, it would focus on the Parliamentary Campaign and do everything possible to market its parliamentary candidates in all the 10 regions to end what the Party called the “Winner-Takes-All Disease” in our politics.
He said the PPP needed members in Parliament to champion this Change Agenda and to reduce the heightened tensions that could weaken the nation’s democratic credentials.
The Party, he explained, was formed with the conviction that Ghana deserved better results than had been achieved in the Fourth Republic so far.
The founders of the Party, he said, thought long and hard before making the decision that an independent, progressive movement, not tied to the apron strings of any political party that has won power since independence, would offer the best chance to bring change to the country and its people; the positive type that could be felt by all Ghanaians and not just a privileged few.
“We are people-centred, pragmatic and concerned with the betterment of human life, including the achievement of a high quality of life,” he said, and urged Ghanaians to support this worthy cause for progressive development.
Rev. Larbi, for his part, thanked the leadership of the Party and the members for endorsing him to enable him to serve his nation in the capacity of a parliamentary candidate and promised to work hard if given the “thumb” by the electorates, to improve education, health, sanitation, infrastructure and the employment situation of the people in his constituency.
He said he would also explore the option of private sector partnership to revive defunct industries, which used to provide massive employment opportunities in the community.
He pleaded for the support of the youth of the area to trust the PPP with a four-year term and compare their works afterwards with what others had done in the past.
The National Convention of the Party would be organised in Accra on July 16, 2016, to outdoor its Presidential Candidate, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom.
He was the only candidate after the nomination process, which was supervised by the National Committee.
