Leaked papers will not be cancelled – WAEC

WAECThe West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says the leaked West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) papers already written will not be cancelled.

According to WAEC the decision was arrived at based on the analysis of reports received from the field on alleged leakage.

A statement signed by Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs at Ghana National Office of WAEC, said the remaining papers would be taken as scheduled.

WAEC said it read with concern a story, carried in the Wednesday, April 6 edition of the Daily Graphic, of the leak of three papers of the on-going WASSCE for school candidates.

“The Council said it suspects that the leak was perpetrated through the connivance of some persons engaged for the conduct of the examination and their agents,” the statement said.

“The Council with the assistance of the security agencies, is tracking down these persons for prosecution,” it added.

It cautioned candidates to stay away from such materials as the Council had the mechanism to detect those who benefitted from the malpractice, and would not hesitate to apply sanctions.

The statement said investigations would continue and persons found culpable would be sanctioned as appropriate.

It urged all candidates to remain calm and focused, in the wake of the unfortunate developments.

“The public is hereby invited to offer any information they may have which could be of assistance to the Council in preventing the malpractice on telephone number 0208179309.

“Media houses are also entreated to be circumspect in their reportage on the ongoing examination in order not to create unnecessary anxiety among candidates.
