Mr. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, Minister for Youth and Sports, has said he is not expecting the sports journalists to pamper him, though he regards himself as a member of the sports media.

“I am member of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), but i am not expecting you to pamper me.”

“I expect you to conduct a critical analysis of issues and criticise me, when needed and praise me when it is due.” Mr Vanderpuije said during a meeting with sports journalists in Accra.

He said: “My success is your success and yours success is mine. The future of our profession will depend on my progress at the ministry.”

“My background as sports journalist will play a key role in my work at the Youth and Sports Ministry, but I cannot succeed without your contributions.”

Mr. Vanderpuije added that, there was so much work to be done at the Ministry to develop and promote sports in the country and he will need the support of all stakeholders to succeed.

“I need the media to have a thorough understanding of the issues and policies so that they can go out and educate the public adequately.

“This I believe will reduce public pressure on the ministry so that we can focus on our work and develop sports in the country.” Mr Vanderpuije stated.

He called on the media to provide him the necessary support to succeed at the ministry.
