Professor Kwesi Botchway, Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), has rallied Ghanaians to work together in good faith to sustain the nation on the path of progress.

He noted that given political will, right attitudes and values, there could be no doubt that Ghana would work.

He was speaking at a forum held to brief the National House of Chiefs (NHC) on preparations towards the development of a 40-year plan to serve as blueprint for the socio-economic advancement of the country.

The goal was to solicit their views to incorporate these into the plan, to provide a way out to deal with the intractable developmental challenges.

Prof Botchway said it would take the collective effort of everybody to ensure the sustainability of the long-term development framework.

The people should not only show keen interest in its preparation but its implementation, he added.

Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, Director-General of the Commission, said the development of a long-term framework tied in with international best practice.

Ghana needed to adapt itself to the changing world – economically, culturally and socially in order not to be left behind by globalization, he stated.

He said broad-based innovations, sustained decentralization, micro and macro-economic stability would be key to the plan.

Wulugu Naba, Pugansoa Na Prof John S. Nabila, President of the NHC, highlighted the meaning role chiefs’ played in national development and said their involvement in the preparation of the development plan was therefore appropriate.

The plan, he said, should be binding on all government and guide their development effort to meet the expectation of the population.
