GN division one 2015/2016 league launched

FootballThe 2015/2016 GN Division One League was launched on Thursday, February 25, at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, Accra.

Speaking at the launch, the General Manager of the GN Bank, Mr. Allen Quaye said he was happy his outfit was sponsoring the league and pledged their commitment to continue to partner the division one league.

He noted that, though GN Bank is excited about the awareness of the league and the opportunities the community will benefit from, they are worried about the challenges as well saying “the delay of the start of the league and allegations of match fixing and bribery are worrying”.

Mr. Quaye announced a GH¢690,000 to sponsorship package for the league and indicated that the clubs have agreed with the modalities for payment.

He added that, investing in football was a worthy cause and deemed it necessary to partner the GFA to organise the league .

He was hopeful that the upcoming season will be better as compared to the previous one to achieve to enable the bank to meet its target.

The Vice Chairman of the Division League Board (DOL) Mr. Akwasi Owoahene Acheampong assured Ghanaians of a competitive and interesting season with the new measures put in place to generate the interest of the public.

Mr. Acheampong said ‘‘security wise, we are in talks with the police commander and informed them about acts of hooliganism and the need to treat them as criminal cases.

“Also the awards committee will start monitoring the the league from the start to have a fair nominees for the next awards’’.

A member of the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Lawyer Kweku Eyiah also added that, the second tier league is dear to his outfit saying ‘‘the division one league is dear to GFA because we get most of our talents there, so the premier league scouts should cast their net there and they will be amazed by the talents’’.

He called on the media to focus on the league to promote it and admonished spectators to eschew any form of hooliganism.
