Flood digital space with local content – MTN Coffee

MTN-LogoMTN, Ghana’s leading voice and data communications services provider, has launched “MTN Coffee,” an initiative that brings stakeholders together to share innovative ideas on various topics.

The first forum, held under the theme, “Creating a Digital Ecosystem for Local Content Development,” was centered around discussions on how local content could be used to harness limitless opportunities within the digital space.

Topics discussed included content creation, publishing, promoting, packaging, sales and marketing.

Addressing the participants, Mr Kwaw Ansah, an award winning film maker, writer and producer, shared details of the benefits of monetizing local content and forging partnerships with an organization such as MTN, which has the widest reach and the infrastructure needed to meet the digital capacity requirements of the creative industry.

He said it is imperative for Africans to tell their own stories and use dissemination platforms that would guarantee broad impact.

Mr Noel Kojo Ganson, the Acting Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Ghana, said “MTN initiated ‘Open Coffee’ because we believe in the huge potential of local content and we understand how creating a platform that brings together people with common industry interests can promote local content.”

Participants at the forum included stakeholders within the entertainment and creative arts industry, local content developers, aggregators, entrepreneurs, investors and consumers.

“Open Coffee” forum was organized in line with MTN’s vision “to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world to our customers” and its mission “to make the lives of our customers a whole lot brighter”.

Other initiatives undertaken to achieve the digital vision include the creation of the MTN Apps Challenge, MTN iFest (internet festival) and the Digital Youth Expo project.

MTN Play is also one of the platforms the company has made available for content owners to upload music videos, applications and games, as well as make content available for download by consumers.
