Dr. Edward Nasigrie Mahama, a gynecologist turned politician, was on Saturday elected as the Presidential Candidate for the People’s Nation Convention (PNC), to lead the party in the 2016 general elections
Dr. Mahama polled 492 votes to beat Mr Hassan Ayariga with 426 votes, at a Delegates’ Congress held in Wa to elect National Executives and Presidential Aspirant for the PNC.
Mr Bernard Mornaah emerged as the new National Chairman of the party, beating two other contestants, Mr. David Apasara and Mr. Abubakari Sadiq, with 701 votes.
Mr. David Apasara had 152 votes and Mr. Sadiq 50 votes.
The First Vice Chairman position went to Mr. Henry Haruna, who scored 310 votes.
Hajia Ali Musah polled 272 votes to become the Second Vice Chairperson, with Mr. Michael Wonigo receiving 16 votes to become the Third Vice Chairman.
Mr Atik Mohammed became the new General Secretary with 518 votes, defeating Mr. Emmanuel Wilson who had 398 votes.
Mr. Desmond Ntow took the National Organiser’s post with 576 votes, as against 383 votes by Abu Ramadan.
Madam Janet Asana Nabla won the National Women Organiser’s position with 514 votes, beating Madam Lizzy Amadikanya who polled 385 votes.
Mr. Issahaku Abdulai is the new National Youth Organiser with 339 votes, Mr. Mark Ewusi 252 votes, Mr. Alidu Nazirudeen 222 votes and Mr. Uring Bashiru 93 votes.
Mr. Akane Adams won the National Treasurer post, defeating four other contestants with 540 votes.
Dr Mahama thanked the delegates for electing him as flagbearer, and the national executives, to run the affairs of the party.
He promised to provide open leadership administration to tap different ideas from the rank and file, for the collective growth of the party.
He urged the national executives and all supporters to work harder than before, to ensure victory for the PNC in the 2016 elections, in order to implement prudent policies and programmes to salvage the economy.
