Palm oil business collapsing

Palm oil sellers at the Koforidua Central Market have expressed concern about the threat to their business after the announcement made by the Food And Drugs Authority recently for Ghanaians to suspend their consumption of palm oil due to contamination.

According to the market women, their daily sales had dwindled drastically, saying business was not moving and customers were not patronizing their product.

A survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua indicated that business was not moving for women in the palm oil business since the pronouncement.

According to Madam Martha Boakye, she used to sell five to 10 gallons of palm oil on a good day, but ever since the announcement was made, customers had stopped coming.

The case was not different with Madam Akosua Nti.

She lamented that since the announcement, she had not sold any of her palm oil, and that was affecting her family, especially those going to school .

However, Madam Asantewaa Adu, said business was moving for her, adding that her  customers were coming in  to buy from her.

She said she had no problem with the issue because she bought her palm oil from a trusted customer.

The Food and Drugs Authority  (FDA) recently cautioned the public to be wary of palm oil that contained Sudan IV,  a  poisonous substances injurious  to the human body.

This has brought fear and panic to the public.
