The Sunyani Traditional Council (STC) has asked the  Brong-Ahafo  Regional Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to compel the Regional Executives  to render an unqualified apology for the unpalatable remarks made against Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri the Second, the Paramount Chief, and the entire members of the Council.

Oboaman Bofotia Boa-Amponsem,  Kurontihene of the Sunyani Traditional Area on Tuesday made the request at a press conference in Sunyani to react to comments made against  Nana Nkrawiri and his elders in the party’s  recent press conference that the Sunyanimanhene had stated that President John Dramani Mahama would get 70 to 80 in the Brong-Ahafo Region in Election 2016.

Oboaman Boa-Amponsem who addressed the press conference on behalf of Nana Nkrawiri and the STC therefore requested the Regional Executives of the NPP to appear before the Council to render an apology so that  the matter could be laid to rest.

He said the STC read with shock and dismay about the attack by the NPP’s Regional Executives led by Mr. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh in their press conference carried out by the media, following the comments of Nana Nkrawiri  the Second,  when President John Dramani Mahama paid a courtesy call on him at his palace last Tuesday.

Oboaman Boa-Ampomsem stated that Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh had undermined the authority of the Sunyani Manhene by saying “the Chief stood to the lowest level to call on residents of the region to endorse the Presidency of President Mahama.”

The NPP Regional Chairman again cast a slur on the image of the Paramount Chief of Sunyani by questioning his role as a father that  “the jurisdiction of the Omanhene is subjected to many questions and for that matter his powers  is defined and  same limited.”

The Kurontihene indicated that the STC considered such statements as derogatory and indictment on the person of Nana Nkrawiri and the authority of the STC.

Oboaman Boa-Ampomsem said the Omanhene as a father of all, embraced every political party that paid courtesy on him and gave equal treatment by advising them not to fight for power, but rather encouraged them to work hard to win the forthcoming general elections

He did not understand the NPP Chairman’s comment on the Sunyanihene’s statement in question because during the recent “rise and build” tour of the flag-bearer of the NPP, Nana Nkrawiri remarked that “since the symbol of the Sunyani stool is an elephant and the symbol of the NPP is also an elephant, the Council will be happy if the NPP works hard to retain the Sunyani East seat which has always been held by the Party.”

“Nana Sunyani Manhene also assured the NPP of the support of his people to help them win the seat and the Presidency in Election 2016,” he added.

Oboaman Boa-Amponsem, therefore, stressed that the NPP Regional Chairman must understand that political mudslinging should not have any place in today’s political dispensation, adding that self-interest did not also have any role in deciding the future of the people.

The Kurontihene emphasized that the STC would remain loyal to all political parties and therefore entreated political leaders to be steadfast and not to be deterred by misguided critics.
