Pastor discharged of wife’s murder charges

Pastor Eric Adusah, a United Kingdom based pastor accused of killing Charmaine Speirs, his British wife, was on Wednesday discharged by a District Magistrate Court in Accra.

The Court, presided over by Ms Mavis Ekua E. Kwainoe, discharged Pastor Adusah based on advice from the Attorney General’s Department to discharge him. This is because evidence gathered did not implicate the pastor.

It further ordered the release of the body of the deceased to Pastor Adusah, so he could hand over same to the deceased’s family in the United Kingdom for burial.

When the case was called, Prosecuting Chief Inspector Robert Gyamfi said the investigator known as Detective Sergeant Devine Tornuh had “something to tell the court.”

Detective Sergeant Tornuh told the Court that the Police had received the advice on the case docket asking that the accused be discharged, because the accused person was not linked to the crime.

Defence counsel, Afua Acheampomah Duah prayed the Court to acquit and discharge her client following the development in the matter.

Counsel further prayed for immediate release of the body of the deceased to his client so he could also hand over same to her (deceased’s) family for burial in the UK.

Pastor Adusah, who was being held on charge of murder, has been on bail since June this year. His plea was preserved.

The Pastor was held over alleged murder of his British wife at a hotel in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

According to the prosecution, Pastor Adusah, between March 18 and 20, this year, at Mac Dic Royal Plaza Hotel in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, allegedly caused the death of his wife through unlawful harm.

The couple, who had been married since September last year in the UK, visited Ghana on vacation when the incident occurred.
