Vodafone Ghana officially launches Appstore

VodafoneVodafone Ghana (VG) has officially launched a “Vodafone Appstore” to offer developers and users a platform, to showcase their Ghanaian local relevant apps to promote local innovations.

The Appstore is to promote local developers as they use the developer and publisher portal on the Appstore and it also allows them to take advantage of online trainings and take part in local and international contests.

The Appstore was launched by VG in collaboration Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST).

Mr Julius Owusu-Kyerematen, Director of Strategy and Innovation, VG said the Appstore has a clear Ghanaian portal to promote local innovations.

He said there are hundreds of locally great apps developed each day which do not get the visibility that it deserves.

“It is for this reason that VG decided to come up with an Appstore that is developer friendly with focus on local, relevant content whiles  giving subscribers the opportunity to still have access to a global range of popular apps,” he said.

As subscribers use the Vodafone Appstore, they would have the opportunity to participate in contests and win a whole range of prizes including smart phones and free data bundles.

The Publisher portal also allows registered developers to upload their apps on the store after it has met all quality standards.

Mr Owusu-Kyerematen said: “Consumer needs are increasingly becoming very sophisticated and as a company, we have made it our business to always be ahead of the competition in ensuring that customers are truly satisfied.”

He said developers could just visit the store and publish their apps on the developers’ portals which may easily be considered by the network if it meets all quality standards.

The Vodafone Appstore is accessible on Android, Windows, Java and IOS devices to make its users comprehensive.

The Director said another purpose for the Appstore is to encourage more innovations from local developers who are not motivated to bring out more features to satisfy Ghanaians.

Mrs Akua Odoom, Head of MEST encouraged developers including students of MEST to take the opportunity Vodafone is offering to showcase their technological capability.

She said the Appstore is a brand new opportunity for people to support locally made relevant app and make it visible to the world.

She expressed gratitude to the network for supporting the school with infrastructure during their country to country training programme for developers.

Smartphone users could visit the Appstore by visiting appstore.vodafone.com.gh to download useful Ghanaian apps directly to their phones.
