Judicial Council identifies 80 staff in Anas’s video

The Judicial Council on Friday said 80 judicial staff have been identified with the aid of the available audio-visual and still pictures to be involved in the acts of bribery and corruption.

It said as the disciplinary authority of junior staff, the Judicial Secretary, has constituted two committees to investigate the various acts of misconduct. One of the committee would begin sitting on September 23.

In a release signed by Justice Alex B Poku-Acheampong, Judicial Secretary in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency, on Friday, it said 15 people in the list submitted to the Judicial Service, by tigereyepi, are not staff of the judicial service.

“The tigereyepi reports indicate that they are staff of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prison Service and Attorney Generals Department.”

It said their names and photographs are being forwarded to the relevant institutions for necessary action.

Also two individuals have been identified as private bail contractors.

According to the release, the Chief Justice, is yet to establish whether there is a prima facie case against the high court judges alleged to have misconducted themselves in the bribery scandal revealed by tigereyepi.

Out of the 12 who are in active service, eight have up till Tuesday September 22, to furnish the Chief Justice with their responses.

The release said a justice of the appeal court, sitting as an additional high court judge has been assigned to handle all the cases filed so far in respect of the bribery scandal, from Tuesday September 22.

The release stated that an Appellate panel has also been constituted to hear all the appeals and applications that may arise from the decision of the high court.

Meanwhile, the five-member disciplinary committee of the Judicial Council investigating the circuit court judges and magistrates mentioned in the scandal has suspended its sitting in respect of the 14 who have filed a motion in court until the final determination of the suit.
