Zeal technologies donates endoscopy machine to Komfo Anokye Hospital

komfo-anokye-teaching-hospitalA team of surgeons at the Paediatric Surgery Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi has hailed the donation of a $ 20,000 endoscopy machine to the health facility.

The equipment would aid in the diagnosis and management of internal damage for children who have accidentally swallowed caustic soda and other abrasive chemicals.

Mr Kwaku Ennin, Chief Executive Officer of Zeal Environmental Technologies Limited, the donor, who last year gave GH₵ 50,000 to support the corrective surgery of one patient, said the gift is in response to an earlier request by the unit.

He told the media on the sidelines of a presentation ceremony at KATH that it has been a lifetime passion to support the under-privileged and under-resourced in society to help them come out of their health challenges and enjoy the best in life.

The Takoradi-based philanthropist said he is a businessman who believes in ploughing back the profit of his work into charity as a means of reaching the needy with the gospel of Christ.

Mr Ennin said the barometer for success in life is how one uses his or her resources to improve the lives of others, and invited the well-to-do in the society not to be selfish but to make the poor benefit from their wealth.

Dr Michael Amoah, the Paediatric Surgeon in charge of the Unit, who received the gift lauded the giver and said the machine is a critical need to help roll out effective treatment and after-care regimes for victims.

He said the equipment would assist surgeons to ascertain the extent of damage to affected organs and avoid needless surgeries.

Patients during diagnostic procedures would be made to take in a small tube-like camera which would be operated remotely by experts to take images of their internal organs.
