A 26-year-old Ghanaian woman seeking refuge in Germany has named her baby girl Angela Merkel, according to press reports.

According to the AP citing a German news agency dpa report, the baby was born February 2, 2015 and lives with the mother and 730 other asylum seekers in a former hospital that has been converted into a refugee shelter in Hanover, Germany.

The reports gave the woman’s name as Ophelya Ade. The reports did not say how the Ghanaian woman ended up seeking refugee status in Germany, as Ghana ranks high in good governance indices, despite a worsening economy in recent times. The reports did not also say which part of Ghana she was coming from.
