Women in the Agona Swedru Central and Mandela Markets, have declared their unflinching support for President John Dramani Mahama, and have, therefore, promised to vote massively for the NDC in elections 2016.

This, they said, would enable the NDC to continue with its Better Ghana Agenda programmes.

Mrs Josephine Dennis, Swedru Mandela Market Queen, who disclosed this to the Press at Swedru, said their decision was based on the numerous infrastructural development projects initiated by the central government through the Agona West Municipal Assembly.

Mrs Dennis commended the government for releasing huge sums of money towards the construction of new lockable stores at the Mandela market, in addition to stores built by the Assembly.

The Mandela Market Queen, also known as Auntie Doe, expressed the women’s gratitude to the two deputy ministers of Local Government, Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum and Nii Lante Vanderpuye, for their five-day working visit to the Central Region, especially to the Agona West Municipality and Agona East District.

She said Mr Agyekum’s active participation in the region’s National Sanitation Day exercise, inspired market women in the area not to rest on their oars, but to do more to tidy up the market at all times.

Mrs Dennis commended the Deputy Central Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Agona East, Mrs Queenstar Pokuaa Sawyerr, and Mr Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive for their immense support for the women, and urged them to continue to initiate projects to better the lot of majority of the people in the two districts.

She urged the Agona West Assembly to improve the lighting system at the Mandela Market to help save the women from the nefarious activities of criminals.

The Mandela Market Queen further urged the Assembly to provide the Meat Shop at the market with lighting and water systems, to stop the butchers from selling their meat in the open,  and move into the market to serve the public with healthy meat.
