Ghana exports €72.7m worth of wood products, Asia is biggest market

TimberIn the first five months of 2015 Ghana has exported a total of 141,744 cubic metres of wood products worth about €72.74 million, according to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO).

The country’s total wood exports for the period includes primary, secondary and tertiary products, and Asia is the biggest market.

It also notes that markets in Asia imported 83,797 cubic meters of Ghana’s wood products, mainly poles and billets destined for India, followed by African regional markets (20%) and Europe (13%).

Primary products accounted for 23,976 cubic meters, secondary products were113,679 cubic meters and tertiary products was 4,089 cubic meters.

The leading products in each category were billets (12,464 cubic meters), airdry sawnwood (53,975 cubic meters) and mouldings (3.955 cubic meters), the organization said.
