NDC to open nominations for ‘orphan’ constituencies

NDCExecutives of National Democratic Congress (NDC) are yet to fix a date for the party’s parliamentary primaries, according to an Executive Member of the party who spoke with Ghana News Agency in Accra on Wednesday.

The Member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the new executives have been holding series of meetings to discuss and map-up strategy for retaining power in Election 2016 as well as win majority of parliamentary seats.

He noted that normally the party organises parliamentary primaries in constituencies classified as ‘orphan’ then followed up with constituencies where they have Member of Parliament.

The NDC Executive member noted that Article 43 of the party’s constitution states that, the National Executive Committees shall notify all Constituency Executive Committees as to the time of the opening of nomination for the contest of primaries for the parliamentary seat in each constituency.

It said the Constituency Executive Committee shall within seven days of receipt of such notice circulate the notice to all Poling Divisions inviting nominations from prospective candidates.

The Constitution states that at a date to be determined by the Constituency Executive Committee but guided by the overall calendar of the Party’s political activities and all prospective candidates shall be invited to a Constituency Executive Committee meeting to select prospective candidates that meet the eligibility criteria of the party.
