FDA cautions public on fake Vermox tablets

VermoxThe Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) on Monday cautioned the public about the distribution and sale of fake/counterfeit Vermox tablets on the Ghanaian market.

The FDA, through its Post Market Surveillance with the assistance of Jassen Cilag, the market authorisation holder of Vermox tablets, found batches of fake or counterfeit Vermox tablets in some shops in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Western Regions.

Laboratory analysis revealed that the said batches contained no active ingredients, a statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Hudu Mogtari and copied to the GNA said.

Vermox tablets are used for the treatment of worm infestations.

The FDA said the fake or counterfeit Vermox tablets have the following batch numbers: DALOX00, CIL8J01, DBL4G01, DHL2Z00, and BU1V01.

It asked the public to take note that the fake/counterfeit Vermox tablets were found in the following shops:

Zac Chemicals Shop,Dansoman Night Market, Accra; Pharma Plus Enterprise, Alajo, Accra; Ferna Pharmacy, near Sempe 2 Primary School, Accra; Kofi Gee License Chemical Store, Agege Last Stop, Accra; Daniel Anane Brown HNo C300, (Dabrane Chemical), Ashaiman, Tema; Sebs Care Pharmacy, Michel Camp, Accra; Lily Oppong Chemicals, Buokrom Estates Junction, Kumasi; Aslina Pharmacy, UGC Bus Stop, Bremang, Kumasi; Joyce Okyere Chemical Shop, Bremang, Kumasi; Mr. Daniel K. Asiedu Chemical Shop, Sekondi /Takoradi; Not I But Christ Chemical Shop, Sekondi /Takoradi; Angela W. A. Agyaong Chemical Shop, Kwabenya, Accra; Silver Dove Chemicals, Kotobabi Trotro Station, Accra; Kamfo Yehowa Chemicals,Nima Highway, Accra; Mama Angelina Licensed Chemical Shop, Bubuashie, Accra; Oaka Pharmacy Ltd, Lapaz, Accra; Benjamin Kofi Abradu Chemical Shop, Tabora, Accra; Abeka-Williams Licensed Chemical Seller, Michel Camp, Tema; Kajach  Pharma Limited, Kumasi Central Market, Kumasi; Rail View Chemical Store, Tarkwa; Yesu Nti Chemical Store, Takoradi

The statement said pharmacies, licensed chemical shops, hospitals, clinics and all other health facilities having stocks of Vermox with the listed batch numbers are advised to immediately handover those products to any of the FDA offices countrywide.

Furthermore, the public especially Pharmacies, Chemical Shops, Hospitals and Clinics and other Healthcare Facilities are hereby cautioned against buying medicines from drug peddlers and other dubious sources, because medicines purchased from these sources could be fake or counterfeit.
