President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday called on communities benefiting from the cocoa road rehabilitation programme to report non-performing contractors.

“The contractors have no excuse to delay the  execution of the road projects since the money for project is ready.”

President Mahama made the call when he cut the sod for the construction of some cocoa roads in Bekwai in the Amansie District of the Ashanti Region.

The President had earlier performed similar activities in the Upper West Akyem District and Kyebi in the Eastern Region and Subin Camp in the Adansi South District of Ashanti Region.

He said the government has what it takes to pay for all the projects under the COCOBOD $150 million cocoa road rehabilitation programme and would therefore not tolerate any laziness and delays  from the contractors.

President Mahama said government would construct and rehabilitate all the Bekwai town roads and complete the hospital complex that was started a couple of years ago.

On the roads in the area, President Mahama said the New Edubiase-Anomabo, Bekwai-Adenkaja and Dotom-Subrisu roads were all earmarked for construction in the district.

The President added that the Ntreku junction road to Ntreku among others would also be constructed.

Nana KariKari Appau II, Paramount Chief of Bekwai appealed to the government to complete all abandoned projects including the Bekwai hospital complex project.

He pledged to offer any support that would inure to the completion of the projects to benefit the people in the area.
