Court admits CPP to join GMO case

GM CowpeaAn Accra Fast Track High Court has granted the application filed by the Convention People’s Party (CPP) to join the case involving Food Sovereignty Ghana (FSG), the Attorney General (A-G) and others.

The CPP now becomes the second plaintiff in the case alongside FSG.

The defendants in the case are the National Biosafety Authority, Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen, Ministry of Food And Agriculture and the National Bio-safety Committee.

Initially, the suit was against the National Bio-safety Committee and the Ministry of Food And Agriculture before the A-G was joined.

The Fast Track High Court, presided over by Mr Bright Essel Mensah, has adjourned the case to enable other interested parties to join.

The Court said the Agriculture Ministry cannot approve the sale of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) until it rules on the case brought before it by FSG.

The case has been adjourned to June 15.
