Peace and stability leads to investor confidence – Minister

InvestmentMr Daniel Syme, Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, has observed that peace and stability are the hallmarks of investor confidence.

The Deputy Minister made the observation during this year’s Constitutional Week celebration, organised by the National Commission for Civic Education, at Kalbeon, near the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region.

He asked teachers to instill the spirit of discipline and patriotism in students to grow up to become responsible citizens in future.

He noted that Ghana, unlike other the other states in the sub-region, has enjoyed relative peace for many years, and indicated that this has led to increase of investor confidence thus attracting many investments in the area of mining, agriculture and the commercial sectors of the economy.

The Deputy Regional Minister however expressed regret that notwithstanding the relative peace of the country, there have been occasionally local and political conflicts, and blamed the situation to the lack of indiscipline and sense of patriotism of some citizens.

He said indiscipline undermines the country’s democracy and entreated the political parties to abide strictly by their code of ethics and constitution in order to avoid political squabbles and tensions in the country.

The Regional Director of the Commission, Mr Pontius Baba Apaabey stated that for Ghana to develop there is the urgent need for every citizen to strive to be disciplined.

“Self-discipline is the foundation for success. Societies, institutions, families, schools, workplaces and the nation have rules and regulations that govern behaviour, norms and practices which must be respected and obeyed by all,” he said.

He educated the students to keep their environment clean, uphold the National Pledge and National Anthem of the country , be punctual at all times, stop cheating as well as examination malpractices, protect public properties, respect the rights of other people and religion.

The programme which was on the theme: “A Disciplined Ghana: My Responsibility,” is being organised in the 13 districts and municipalities in the region with the aim of tackling social indiscipline and promote the values of discipline and nationalism among Ghanaians.
