National Health Insurance Authority releases over GH¢3m to settle debts
Accredited service providers of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Awutu-Effutu Senya area have received cheques for outstanding claims.
A total amount of GH¢3,180,739.24 has been released by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to the management of the Awutu-Effutu Senya branch of the NHIA for the settlement of the debts.
Mr Sampson Agyir Nyakoh, the Manager of the Awutu-Effutu Senya Area branch of the NHIA, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency, said with the payment of the outstanding claims the NHIA had fully settled all the unpaid claims owed to NHIS providers in the area from the January 2014 to December 2014 operational period.
He asked the clients to challenge any service provider who might continue to use debts to deny them services.
Mr Nyakoh advised premium holders of the scheme not to hesitate to report any bad treatment by any service provider, saying that as partners in nation-building, service providers also had their role to play to ensure the total success of the Health Insurance Policy.
Dr Edwin Ampadu of Bethel Community Clinic at Kasoa described the NHIS as a useful policy which must be sustained to meet the health needs of Ghanaians, especially the poor and the vulnerable.
Some clients, in an interview, praised the Government for the release of the funds and appealed for adequate funds to support the NHIS Policy to make healthcare affordable.
