Professor Edmund Delle, a former Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has told the Ghana News Agency that he has received overtures from the elders of the party (CPP) to come back to serve the party as its leader.

Prof Delle, who spoke to the GNA at the sidelines of CPP’s Congress, to elect the Northern Regional executives in Tamale over the weekend, said he had, therefore, decided to contest the chairmanship position when the party opened nominations later this year.

According to Prof Delle, the elders of CPP believed that his qualities were needed at the helm of affairs, to carry on with its re-organization strategy,  for victory in the 2016 general elections.

Prof Delle, Chairman of CPP from 2003 to 2007, said his vision was to unite the party to ensure that it became a formidable political force in the country, capable of winning elections.

He said he would work to re-brand and reorganize the party, with especially its youth, blending with the elderly members, while giving opportunity to women to play leading roles in the party to brighten its chances at the polls.

He said: “most old political parties in Africa are now coming up and this is a good sign that CPP will shine again.”

Meanwhile, GNA has picked signals from a highly-placed source within the CPP that Madam Samia Yaba Nkrumah, Chairperson of CPP, was gunning to become the party’s Flagbearer in the 2016 general elections.

The source mentioned three other personalities interested in the Flagbearership position, which include Dr Abu Sakara, 2012 Presidential Candidate, Mr Bright Akwetey, a former Presidential Aspirant, and Mr Joseph Agyepong, a member domiciled in Canada.

At the end of the Congress in Tamale over the weekend, Alhaji Issah Zoro Abdulai was retained as the Regional Chairman, after polling 113 votes to beat two other contestants, who polled 106 and 88 votes.

Other executives elected were Mr Alidu Egala, first Regional Vice Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, second Regional Vice Chairman, Mr Nuhu Mohammed, Regional Secretary and Madam Abiba Sayibu, Women’s Organizer.

The rest were Mr Hafix Mohammed, Youth Organizer, Madam Sabratu Mahama, Treasurer, Mr Nayi Alhassan, Education Officer and Mr Hamza Seidu, Organizer.
