The General Manager of Asante Kotoko, Samuel Opoku-Nti, has said he will not resign despite calls on him to step aside.

Addressing a press conference in Kumasi, the Kotoko legend insisted that the Management had resolved to “surmount the challenges facing the team”, saying “I will not resign until the team is brought back to winning ways”.

This comes in the heat of agitations in the team, following Kotoko’s elimination from the CAF Champions League over the weekend.

Two-times champions Kotoko, were defeated 1-2 by Algeria’s M.C. El-Eulma in Kumasi, after the two teams played out a goalless draw a forth night ago.

This did not go down well with their supporters, who after the match, held the team hostage, threatening to manhandle them and it took the swift intervention of armed police to rescue them.

The playing body, especially, had since been subjected to condemnations for what some of the supporters perceive to be the lack of commitment on their part, citing this as the main reason for the team’s elimination.

Opoku-Nti, who scored the winning goal that won the team’s last Champions League trophy in 1983, said Kotoko had put behind them the defeat and were now focused on the First Capital Plus Premier League with the intent to defend their title.=

The defending champions sit at the fifth place and six points behind the League leaders, Ashgold.

“Our focus is to reclaim the trophy and we look at what happens next”, he noted.
