FM station caught in illegal electricity connection deal

Electricity illegalThe Central Regional Loss Control Unit of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has cut off power supply to an Agona Swedru-based radio station,  “Obrempong FM,” for alleged illegal electricity connection.

Mr Kwesi Adams, Agona Swedru Area Manager of ECG, who made this known to the Media at Agona Swedru, said following a tip-off, the Loss Control Task Force from the Central Regional Office of the company in Cape Coast, went to Swedru and discovered that the FM Station was using electricity power without the payment of bills.

Mr Adams said, ECG has imposed a one-year penalty of GH¢15,000 on the Station, and the amount is to be paid within one week, or the FM Station will face prosecution.

He said after paying the penalty, Management of the FM station would be arraigned before an Agona Swedru Circuit to serve as deterrent to others.

The ECG Area Manager said the ECG Loss Control Task Force detected that machines, including air conditioners at the Company, were using power free of charge.

He said it is unfortunate that for over two years that Obrempong FM was opened at Agona Swedru, it had no records at the ECG Offices at Swedru and Cape Coast.

Mr Adams stated power to the station would be restored after it has settled the bill.

The Area Manager appealed to ECG customers to desist from illegal connections of power to their offices, houses and work places, to enable the company render regular and quality services to the public
