Government determined to transform economy – MCE

MarketGovernment is determined to pursue aggressive transformation of the economy from agrarian into manufacturing.

Mr Samuel Oppong, the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive,made this known when he addressed a parade of school children and voluntary organizations to mark 58th independence anniversary at Agona Swedru.

He said the government was aware of the economic difficulties facing Ghanaians and called for patience.

Mr Oppong said the Assembly had wooed investors from Turkey to go into stone quarry business at Agona Nyakrom.

He said the Rural Enterprise Project under the Business Advisory Center (BAC) was carrying out training programmes in soap and shoe making, gari processing, management training for hairdressers and baking among others to support women in the area.

The MCE stated that the Assembly had engaged a consultant to prepare a tourism profile of the Dapan Hill at Upper Bobikuma which could be developed into a tourist site.

He said the Assembly was sponsoring the Girl-Child Education Unit of Ghana Education Service (GES) to organize girls’ camps to encourage retention of girls in school.

Mr Robert Mensah, Agona West Municipal Director of Education urged parents to support their children by providing them with their basic needs to enhance effective teaching and learning.

Mr Mensah appealed to the Agona West Municipal, the government, local and foreign donors to support the provision of accommodation for teachers.
