Zoomlion to set up research fund with GH¢2m yearly

ZoomlionZoomlion Ghana Limited, has signaled its readiness to set up a scholarship fund to aid waste-management research by the public universities.

Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyapong, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Jospon Group of Companies, Managers of Zoomlion, said GH¢2 million would be put into the fund annually.

This forms part of its strategic corporate plan to develop appropriate technologies to tackle waste, which continues to be a major challenge confronting the nation.

He announced the decision at the inauguration of an office complex built for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) School of Graduate Studies by the Group.

Dr. Agyapong said given the expertise at the disposal of the universities there could be no doubt that with the right support they could find solution to the waste-management problem.

He therefore pleaded with corporate bodies to put premium on research and put more resources into that to help accelerate the nation’s socio-economic development.

Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of the KNUST, applauded the Group for the initiative and said it was important to strengthen public-private partnership in the area of higher education.

The universities have financial constraints and he pointed out that such partnership was necessary to improve infrastructure and motivate faculty members and students as they worked to raise the quality education.
