Traditional ruler urges confidence in Ghanaian entrepreneurs

EntrepreneurNana Prah Agyeinsam VI, Paramount Chief of Assin-Kushia, has asked Ghanaians to have confidence in indigenous businesses and support them to drive the nation’s development.

He said most of them have the capacity to perform to the required international standards, if given the opportunity and the necessary backing.

Nana Prah Agyeinsam, who is also the Board Chairman of Perseus Mining Ghana Limited, was speaking during the signing of a contract between the company and Rocksure International.

Under the contract Rocksure would take charge of the former’s Edikanfo Project at Ayanfuri in the Upper Denkyira District.

Rocksure, a wholly Ghanaian venture, would drill, load and haul the gold for Perseus for the next 27 months.

Nana Agyeinsam said Perseus believes in the ingenuity and capabilities of the local companies and that explained the partnership deal with Rocksure.

He said it was a fulfillment of the vision to make the mine truly Ghanaian to complement government’s policy on indigenisation of economic activities.

He expressed the hope that the company would live up to expectation to justify its selection.

Mr Kwasi Osei Ofori, Chief Executive Officer of Rocksure, said the company began operations about five years ago and that contract mining projects in Mali, Mauritania and other African countries.

Edikanfo mine is the fourth of such contract projects, coming after those of Bogoso, Damang and Tarkwa, owned by Goldfields.

He said it is time Ghanaians take control over the management of the nation’s resources for the benefit of the country.

He said the company has made it a priority to employ local people at all of its project sites.
