MTN-LogoMTN Ghana, says it has spent approximately GH₵2 billion on infrastructure development, indicating that many more Ghanaians on its network would continue to enjoy excellent data services during the New Year and beyond.

This it says, is because it understands the needs of its customers and has therefore, made substantial investments in its network to meet those requirements.

According to the Mobile Data Market Trends released by the National Communications Authority (NCA), MTN Ghana leads the market with more than 51 per cent market share, which translates to a subscriber base of almost eight million data customers.

Reflecting on MTN’s investments, the Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana, Cynthia Lumor said: “MTN Ghana is plugged into the objective to transform Ghana into a knowledge-based society and technology-driven economy.”

In alignment with the objective, MTN has over the years pursued a strategy of proactive, structured network investment to extend coverage and expand capacity.

Besides, 1,850 existing sites were upgraded to take care of voice and data traffic. The company also has approximately 4,295 km of fiber-optic cable which links various cell sites to the company’s ultra-modern switch and data centres to provide the needed speed and capacity for data and voice services.

In a statement Mrs Lumor added: “Customers’ needs are fast changing and what is remarkable is the rapid growth of data services in remote parts of the country and how this is transforming lives in those communities.”

“We continue to monitor customer trends, behaviour and feedback to create, innovate and improve our services,” she said.

In Azoribisi, a village in the Upper East Region where MTN recently inaugurated a CHPS compound, members of the community were taken through how they could access better healthcare through MTN’s 3G service available in the community.

Similarly, in a recent engagement with editors in the Upper West Region, MTN was commended by the media for its aggressive data rollout in the region.

The statement said the journalists applauded MTN for providing technology that makes it easier for them to speedily transmit news reports to their media houses.

MTN continues to expand its coverage, influenced by knowledge gained from interactions with its customers.

In the fourth quarter of 2014, the company opened its flagship data store at Osu in Accra to provide one-stop data shopping for customers.
