Dr. Sulley Gariba appointed Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada

Sulley GaribaPresident John Dramani Mahama on Monday commissioned Dr Sulley Gariba, his Senior Policy Advisor, to become Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada with an advice to use his position to strengthen relations between the two countries.

He said although Canada, at a point in time, became Ghana’s highest development partner, other countries had overtaken her and hoped that Dr Gariba, who studied in that country, would use his acquaintance to re-invigorate the relationship.

President Mahama, who administered oaths of allegiance, office and secrecy on him, said inspite of the dip in their partnership with Ghana, Canada was still instrumental in Ghana’s socio-economic development, which should be pursued for the betterment of both countries.

He said Canada had certain uniqueness in her development agenda and, therefore, partnering her would create a win-win situation.

Dr Gariba, after taking the oaths, commended President Mahama for the confidence reposed in him and gave the assurance that he would catapult relations between the two countries.

Dr Sulley Gariba is one of Ghana’s foremost specialists on Canadian International Development.

He studied and lectured in that country for 15 years obtaining a Masters and Doctorate in Philosophy in Political Science and International Relations.

He is the longest serving member and senior advisor on Ghana’s National Development Planning Commission having been appointed to serve in the Commission since 2001.
