Major highways in Ghana to have emergency posts

HighwayThe National Road Safety Commission, in collaboration with the Ghana Red Cross Society, is to build an Emergency Response and First Aid post along trunk roads in the Western Region to ensure prompt attention and emergency care for accident victims.

Mr. Matthew Boateng, the Regional Manager of the Ghana Red Cross Society, said this was to control avoidable deaths associated with manhandling of accident victims.

The Emergency Response and First Aid Post would have a stand-by ambulance system and personnel on regular duties particularly along the Takoradi/Agona-Nkwanta Road and the Takoradi/Cape Coast Road.

Mr. Boateng was speaking at a forum organized by the NSRC together with Zen Petroleum for long distance drivers on the topic: “Better to come late than never come at all”.

Mr. Paul Twum-Barimah of Zen Petroleum said the forum was to equip drivers to demand and ensure safety on the road.

Mr. Okyere darko, Zonal Axle Load Coordinator, appealed to entreated drivers to abide by the load limit given them to ensure sanity.
