Police investigates murder of Immigration Officer

policeThe Police have intensified their search for the arrest of the unidentified assailants, who murdered an Immigration Officer at his residence, within the Mataheko area in Tema.

The victim, Mr Kofi Quist Defor, 35, was formerly with the Issue Department of Ghana Immigration Head Quarters in Accra.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Turkson, in charge of the Public Relations Unit of Tema Regional Police Head Quarters, told Ghana News Agency, that on the dawn of December 28, the assailants, whom police estimated to number five, scaled the wall of Mr Defor and entered his yard.

They then entered the main house through the kitchen door, which was not locked and went to his bedroom where he was asleep and shot him through his right shoulder.

She said the assailants then used a hoe which they had picked from the victim’s house, and hit his neck repeatedly with it until he was motionless, after which they made off with his cell phones, laptops, among other items.

Mr Defor was pronounced dead at Tema General Hospital.

ASP Turkson said the police rushed to the crime scene as soon as they were contacted.

Although Mr Defor had a wild dog in the house, the canine appears not to have been able to do much about the situation, and was found alive in the yard after the incident, she said.

On November 21, 32- year old Miss Rosmond  Nyampong, who worked with the Credit Department of Stanbic Bank, was also found dead in the kitchen of her rented apartment at Batsona in Accra.

Police said she was strangled after being hit with an object.

Abraham Oyortey, 25 is standing trial for her murder.

Another killing occurred on December 22, when Mr Kwesi Sekyi Pra, 34 –year- old Manager of the Akosombo branch of Zenith Bank, was shot to death by two assailants who had broken into his Tema Community 25 house, at 0200 hours.

After holding his care taker hostage, the assailants broke into his room where he slept with his wife and killed him.

They then took away a bag containing baby diapers.

Police is investigating all the cases.
