NRSC embarks on night road safety education in Wa

TrafficThe National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) in Wa has started night education on best road safety practices as part of its determination to reach out to all road users with information to reduce accidents.

Using video and slide show, the Commission is able to attract the attention of people from all walks of life especially children to watch and listen to the road safety messages.

Areas that benefited so far from the new initiative include Kpaguri, Mangu, Kambali, Sokpeyiri, Zongo, Dondoli, Jejiereyiri and Kejetia all suburbs of Wa.

Addressing a large crowed at Kejetia during one of the shows, Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Samad, the Upper West Regional Manager of the NRSC, advised pedestrians against crossing the road at junctions or curves.

He said it was dangerous to do so as one would not be able to determine whether a vehicle was coming or not especially at curves.

He also advised them to walk by the left side of the road in order to face oncoming vehicles.

Mr. Abdul-Samad educated the people on other road safety measures such as defensive riding, wrong overtaking, over speeding and the negative implications of riding while talking on mobile phone.

Miss Hannatu Abdulai, the Assistant Planning Officer (APO) also spoke on the importance of the crash helmet and the need for motor riders to wear it all the time no matter how short the distance.

She pleaded with drivers, riders and pedestrians to make it a point to always be patient, observe and look out for other road users to avoid needless accidents.

She appealed to children not to play on the road as their lives could be at risk.
