The National House of Chiefs (NHC), has called on Ghanaians to continue to build on and consolidate their peaceful co-existence and unity.

The nation demonstrated to the world in 2013 that it was capable of resolving disputes in a civilized and democratic manner and this needed to be continued in the years ahead.

In its New Year’s message signed by Mr A. K. Essien, the acting Registrar in Kumasi on Monday, said everything should be done to protect the peace the country was enjoying.

The chiefs congratulated Ghanaians for “what we have been able to achieve this year, particularly our comportment, respect for each other and respect for the rule of law before, during and after the election petition.

It is the expectation of Nananom that Ghanaians would enter 2014 with the spirit of tolerance, unity, understanding, forgiveness, peaceful co-existence and above all spirit of reconciliation”.

The NHC invited the people to take stock of their activities, identify their achievements and failures and plan the way forward – on how to improve upon the achievements and overcome the failures in 2014.

It also reminded drivers and other road users to observe road safety regulations to prevent avoidable road crashes and deaths.
